About Richard S. Brown

Richard S. Brown was the singer, harmonica player and co-song writer of The Misunderstood, a rock music group from California. In 1966 the band moved to London, England, where they were successful, before being forced to breakup due to the Vietnam War draft.

Being a conscientious objector, Richard left the USA in 1967 and lived in Asia for 12 years. It was while living in a North Indian monastery that he stumbled across translations of Sanskrit information relating fine gems with astrology a system he subsequently dubbed “Planetary Gemology.” To learn more about this subject, he studied under late Raj Roop Tank in Jaipur, and subsequently Richard first book, named “Chintamani Astro Jewels,” was published in 1975.

Taking advantage of the US amnesty, Richard returned to America, where he subsequently graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in 1983. But the call of the East was strong so he moved to Bangkok in 1986 and helped found Astral Gemstone Talismans and the Planetary Gemologists Association.
Since moving to Thailand, he has appeared on Thai television 36 times, published over 240 articles and 13 books. His book, Ancient Astrological Gemstones & Talismans, received the 1996 Benjamin Franklin Award from the Publisher Marketing Association.

The book 2nd edition was published in 2008, and Richard is pleased to give each of tonight’s visitors a complimentary copy.

Please remember to pick up your book before leaving.
